ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS SURVEY

You are invited to participate in a research study addressing romantic relationships that is being conducted by Sarah Vannier (Ph.D. student), under the supervision of Dr. Lucia O’Sullivan, a psychology professor at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Canada.

PURPOSE OF STUDY: The purpose of this study is to learn more about people’s romantic relationships and to develop a measure of people’s beliefs and experiences in their romantic relationships.

REQUIREMENTS: You will be asked to take part in an online survey that will take 15 to 20 minutes to complete. The survey requests information about your background, current relationship (if any), and thoughts about love, romance, and relationships. You will have the option of putting your name into a raffle to win a $20 dollar Tim Horton’s git card. Chances of winning are 1 in 50.

POTENTIAL RISKS &  BENEFITS: We do not anticipate that you will experience any discomfort during the study. However, if you do feel uncomfortable, you can withdraw from the study at any time or choose not to answer any questions without penalty. Although you will not benefit directly from participating in this study, your participation will contribute to the greater body of knowledge on romantic relationships. You can choose to receive a summary of the findings of this research by providing your e-mail at the end of this consent form.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF THE DATA: Your name, e-mail address, or any other identifying information will not be associated in any way with your survey responses. Your name and e-mail address will be used only for the prize draw. Only the researchers will have access to the information you give on the questionnaire and only a summary of the overall results will be shared in possible future presentations and/or publications of the survey data. The website that hosts the survey is on a secure server. All data will be securely stored on a password protected computer and in a locked cabinet in a secure research office for five years as per ethical process.

WITHDRAWAL FROM THE STUDY: Participation in the study is completely voluntary. If at any time you feel you do not wish to participate for any reason, you are free to withdraw without penalty. You may also decline to answer specific questions. You will still be able to enter in the raffle to win the $20 gift card.

MORE INFORMATION: If you have any questions before, during, or after the study, or if you would like to learn more about this research project, please feel free to contact the researchers. If you would prefer to speak with an individual not directly involved in this research, please contact the department chair.
